Ségur le Château Towns & Villages in Ségur-le-Château

It is one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, in a meander (a loop) of the Auvézère, Ségur-le-Château (classified Historic Monument) is built in complete safety (in a safe place as its name suggests). The ruins of the 12th century fortified castle are positioned on a hill, to dominate and monitor the valley, it was the place of residence of the Viscounts of Limoges. As you walk through the village, you will notice beautiful houses with turrets, half-timbered, but also beautiful carved granite door frames. It is that the village, between the 15th and the 18th century, knew a sumptuous period, being the seat of a court of appeal (the court of appeals) which rendered justice to some 350 Lords of the surroundings. Ségur is today a pleasant village where you can stroll quietly, stopping in the shops of artists (painters, sculptors). Good to know: Mid-August a Painters' Day is organized in the village. The local producers' market takes place on Monday evenings during the summer, in the heart of the village.
