In Neuvic, the Dordogne gorges are adorned with their finest assets. In the village of Neuvic, we can still guess the medieval fortifications of this village whose origins date back to the 15th century and are linked to the Vicomté de Ventadour and its castle. Take a walk to admire the 3 towers, the small public squares, the pretty statues and the Saint-Étienne church. You can visit the Departmental Museum of Resistance Henri Queuille, which tells the daily life and the acts of resistance of the maquisards. It is the natural heritage around Neuvic that is particularly remarkable. First visit the Arboretum of the Château de Neuvic, labeled Remarkable Garden, it covers 6ha with 370 tree species. Children will find games there, all along the park.
The Ventadour Castle, about twenty kilometers west of Neuvic, overlooks the Luzège Valley, perched on its rock at an altitude of 512 meters! It is a dive into the Middle Ages, in this castle which was the host of several troubadours, artists who put into song poems in the language of Oc, to tell the adventures and news to the villagers and entertain the Lords . The rocky structure of the castle juts out like the bow of a boat attacking the vegetation! The Château can be visited, on a self -guided tour with a booklet or a guided tour in summer. It is open from April to September.
To the north of Neuvic, the Lac de la Triouzoune is a huge expanse of water (a dam lake, as there are many in Corrèze) of 410 ha, very lively in summer with swimming possible and supervised on its beaches. Nautical leisure activities are available: sailing, canoeing, boat rental, fishing, and why not go around it by bike or by renting an eclectic bike? It is a magical place all year round, in autumn the vegetation is adorned with superb brown orange colors! There is a very nice view of the lake at Puy de Manzagol, with an orientation table.
To the south-east next to Sérandon , go to the belvedere of Gratte Bruyère where there is a breathtaking view of the gorges of the Haute Dordogne . An ideal place to have a picnic, with tables and a parking lot. At this place is the start of the Tourist and Historical Route of the Ajustants, a hundred kilometers of road trip, a real treat for amateurs.
Further south-west, if you still want a magical site to admire, which emerges as if by magic from the landscape (a real specialty of Corrèze!), go to the Rochers Noirs Viaduct which overlooks the Luzèges gorges. We can no longer borrow it because of its dangerousness, but it will be a shame not to take advantage of its point of view. Both sides are attractive. You can walk on a footbridge which allows the pleasant observation of the viaduct in its decorations. Bring a picnic because upstream there is a designated area.
