    • Aubazine is a calm and pleasant place in all seasons. We come here to recharge our batteries, in this pretty monastic village in the middle of the woods. Discover its 12th century Cistercian Abbey and its abbey church. As you walk through the charming streets, you will come across old houses and one of them was home to the first steps of the future Coco Chanel! Fans of religious architecture will enjoy discovering the pretty Byzantine-inspired Chapel of Aubazine, a place of rest and mediation, which is adorned with very pretty frescoes on magnificent woodwork.

Aubazine is well situated for nature walks, particularly along the Canal des Moines. This work of art dates from the 12th century, it is contemporary with the Abbey and was also intended to supply water to the conventual buildings and gardens. At the Tourist Office you will find a topo guide with trails and game booklets to make the walk more attractive for children. Here is an overview of the hikes in Aubazine (fr) and around to find on the website of the Town Hall. The discovery plan (fr) of the city of Aubazine is very practical!

Things to do and discover near Aubazine:

      • The small Coiroux waterfall is a pleasant place to have a picnic, after a short family hike.
      • The Lac du Coiroux is at the heart of a large park for various water sports (canoeing, pedal boating, fishing and outdoor activities (golf, tree climbing)… In season, two small café bars allow you to eat and have a cold drink. Not far from the lake is the Golf du Coiroux.
      • To enjoy a very pretty view of the surroundings, after a short walk, park in the Carrières du Puy de Pauliac car park and head down the path towards an orientation table. We breathe!!
      • 13km south of Aubazine in Beynat, you will enjoy the summer of a market of local producers at night in July and August, on Tuesday evenings. For swimming in the area, the Lac de Miel is a pretty corner of nature for swimming, walking, enjoying water and outdoor games. A few kilometers away, before or after a swim, take some fresh air at the Roche de Vic viewpoint, which culminates at an altitude of more than 600m, for a beautiful view accompanied by an orientation table. And to continue in the “Rando” spirit, here is the topo of the Chestnut circuit of Beynat (fr) which will teach you more about this local product very present in the Dordogne. You will learn more at the Chestnut and Basketry Ecomuseum, in the same village.
